Castlecomer Discovery Park ...

Set in the former gardens and stableyards of the Wandesforde Estate, visitors to the Discovery Park can enjoy both an indoor and outdoor experiences. You can soak up the beautiful nature & wildlife of the 80 acres of mature woodlands which has over 6km of walking pathways; relax and enjoy the thrill of catching rainbow trout on restored angling lakes. Children can enjoy the rare animals who reside in the former walled gardens as well as the fun playground designed especially to reflect the natural beauty of the park. Indoors, in the interactive multimedia exhibition "Footprints in Coal", learn about the Castlecomer Coalmining Heritage which stretches back 4 Centuries and was one of Ireland's foremost coal mines. Relax in the beautifully restored stable yard which boasts a wealth of local craftspeople; Silversmiths, Goldsmiths, Potters, Stone-carvers, furniture restorers and artists who produce, display and sell their inspiring crafts.

Why not spend the day enjoying all that the Discovery Park has to offer and either have a picnic at one of the many picnic tables available round the park or treat yourself, in the delightful Jarrow Cafe within the visitor centre. Throughout the year we also organise specific seasonal events for families. Our Christmas experience is fast becoming one of the most popular in Ireland. The event includes a wonderful indoor tour, a carriage ride through the winter woodlands and around the lakes. Families can also visit Santa's reindeer in their paddock and the elves workshop. We run an Easter event where families participate in games and challenges and a Halloween event with House of Horrors and Ghost Train. Check out our website www.discoverypark.ie.
